All About Craps Bets
Keep this useful reference guide near when you play.
Pass Line/Don’t Pass Line Bets
Pass/Don’t Pass Bets are placed before the Come Out Roll. Pass Line Bets win if the roll is a 7 or 11 and lose if it’s a 2, 3 or 12.
For Don’t Pass Line Bets, a Come Out Roll of 2 or 3 wins and a roll of 7 or 11 loses, while 12-value roll is pushed. All wins pay even money.
If any other dice value is rolled, that becomes the value of the Point. The Pass/Don’t Pass wager stays on the table until a 7 or the established Point is rolled.
If the Point is rolled, the Pass Bet is won, and if a 7 is rolled, it is lost. For a Don’t Pass Bet the opposite is true.
Come/Don’t Come Bets
Come/Don’t Come Bets are similar to Pass Line/Don’t Pass Line wagers in Craps and also pay 1:1, with the main difference being that they are placed after establishing the Point.
Players will choose a number as their own personal Point, and then has Line and Come Bets on the table.
If the Point established in a Line bet is 5 and the personal Come/Don’t Come Bet has a player-set Point of 6, rolling either of these secures a win or a loss, respectively.
Odds Bets
Odds Bets are some of the best options for online betting NZ players have when it comes to Craps.
A good way to think of them is as side bets that are made after the Point has been established; essentially, they are extensions of the 4 Line and Come Bets.
There are 4 options: Pass Line, Don’t Pass, Come and Don’t Come Odds Bets.
“Taking the Odds”, or placing a Pass Line or Come Odds Bet, and “Laying the Odds” or placing a Don’t Pass Line or Don’t Come Bet, must be done in conjunction with another wager.
Because Odds Bets pay out at true rather than casino odds, the house edge is reduced for every Odds Bet that you place.
Place Win and Lose Bets
After the Come-Out Roll has established the Point, players can make Place Bets on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. If the number they bet on is rolled before a 7, they’ll be paid out in a Place Win Bet.
For Place Lose wagers, players win if a 7 is rolled before the number they chose. Prizes varying according to the specific numbers rolled.
Buy and Lay Bets
Buy Bets and Lay Bets are the same as Place Win Bets and Place Lose Bets respectively, with higher payouts and a 5% commission.
Big 6 and Big 8 Bets
Straightforward Big 6 and Big 8 Craps wagers also pay even money, and are successful if any dice combination of 6 or 8, respectively, is thrown before a 7.
Hardways Bets
Hardways Bets involve the same number being rolled on both dice.
Players can bet on Hard 4s, 6s, 8s or 10s being rolled before a 7, with the payout determined by the specific number again.
Field Bets
Field Bets are placed on the very next roll, and lose if a 5 to 8 is rolled.
They win for anything else and the payout is 1:1 except in the case of 2 or 12, when it is 2:1.
Propositions Bets
The Proposition Bets in Craps are also settled on the next roll, and come with higher house edges and correspondingly higher payouts than the other wagers. The7 include:
- Any 7: 7 will be rolled next
- Any 11: 11 will be rolled next
- Any Craps: 2, 3 or 12 will be rolled next
- Ace Deuce: 3 will be rolled next
- Aces: 2 will be rolled next
- Boxcar: 12 will be rolled next
